Aerococcus sanguinicola. Share. Species similar to or like Aerococcus sanguinicola. Member of the bacterial genus Aerococcus and is a Gram-positive, catalase-negative coccus growing in clusters. current name.
A descriptive clinical-microbiological study was conducted on the presence of A. sanguinicola causing urinary tract infections. Species belonging to the Aerococcus genus are isolated from the urine and blood of elderly patients suffering from urinary tract infections (UTIs). However, the clinical significance, phenotypic features and antimicrobial susceptibilities of these underestimated and/or misidentified species remain unclear.
Aerococcus bacteriuria is known to be common amongst the elderly, with a female predominance . The majority of urinary isolates are Aerococcus urinae (55–66%) followed by Aerococcus sanguinicola (26–46%). Aerococcus viridans is uncommon . Aerococci are also presumed to be part of normal genitourinary tract flora, and isolation in urine may

Aerococcus urinae and Aerococcus sanguinicola are relatively newcomers and emerging organisms in clinical and microbiological practice. Both species have worldwide been associated with urinary tract infections. More rarely cases of bacteremia/septicemia and infective endocarditis have been reported. Treatment options are therefore important.
2009-07-08 2017-09-21 N2 - Since Aerococcus sanguinicola was designated as a species in 2001, only a few cases of bacteremia have been reported. The aim with this study was to describe the clinical presentation of A sanguinicola bacteremia and to determine the antibiotic susceptibility and the capacity of the bacteria to form biofilm and to induce platelet aggregation. 2018-10-01 Most Aerococcus species will grow in Salt Broth but A. sanguinicola is the only species that is usually Bile Esculin (+). Commercial ID systems have limited abilities to ID A. urinae/A. viridans and will not recognize A. sanguinicola. The most distinguishing characteristic of Aerococcus sp.
Sixteen conventional tests were used to describe and differentiate the 16 isolates of A. sanguinicola from 30 strains of Aerococcus viridans , 27 strains of Aerococcus urinae , and a single strain each of Aerococcus christensenii and Aerococcus urinaehominis .

viridans and will not recognize A. sanguinicola. The most distinguishing characteristic of Aerococcus sp. is their gram stain morphology of large GPCs in clusters. This A retrospective chart review was performed on 92 patients from whom 118 isolates of Aerococcus sanguinicola (n = 52) or Aerococcus urinae (n = 66) were obtained from urine cultures between October 2007 and June 2008 to assess clinical presentation and antimicrobial susceptibilities.
